Senior Shelby Stinebaugh signed to play volleyball with the Air Force Academy on March 23. Stinebaugh joins fellow Texans Michelle Harrington of San Antonio Reagan and Plano native Vanessa Warwick of the Ursuline Academy in Dallas.
“I chose Air Force because that’s the way it worked out,” Shelby Stinebaugh said.
Her father Steve Stinebaugh said the academy showed the most interest in the middle blocker.
“They really wanted her,” Steve Stinebaugh said. “When she visited there she liked it, so here she goes.”
As part of her induction into the academy, she will have to cut her hair which is now down here back.
“I have to cut it to shoulder length,” she said. “After my freshmen year, I can let it grow again.”
Located in immediately north of Colorado Springs, Colo., the Air Force Academy, 3-21 last season, is part of the Mountain West Conference which includes BYU, New Mexico, Colorado State, San Diego State, TCU, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming.
During her volleyball career here, Stinebaugh was named to the all-district team and was selected to the All-State Academic team.
Stinebaugh leaves Cleburne to play under Falcon head volleyball coach Penny Lucas-White, a graduate of the University of Memphis. Lucas-White is in her 11th year as the head coach of the Lady Cadets.
