As opposed to being a taboo subject rehab has had many questions as to its effectiveness over the past couple years. Most argue that it holds low results but contrary to popular opinion it has been more than just effective, it’s saved many.
According to an article on “How Rehab Works,” over 3.9 million Americans in 2005, 12 and over, had received treatment for their drug/alcohol dependency and using the 12-step program has had an 87 percent chance of abstinence after rehab.
Rehab centers not only offer privacy to their patients but a sense of comfort within the walls to avoid outside temptations. Its combination of privacy, comfort, exercise programs and nutritional meals help abusers feel more secure in gaining hold over their addictions and continuing their stay through the duration of the program.
Counseling that is provided with the program also gives the abuser a better knowledge of the triggers to avoid in the future and settles the emotional turmoil that has led to the substance abuse in the first place.
It’s followed closely by means of support; support groups continue the fight against the addiction by gaining friendships and strength from fellow addicts who understand the need for alcohol or drugs that gives them further means for quitting. It helps addicts to be more open about their problem and overcoming it.
Rehab centers have shown a dramatic improvement against sustenance abuse and its advantage to gain hold over additions and will improve to further technology and dedication.
Past abusers should take a stand and fight for future addicts by setting examples of posting recovery stories that rehab has provided for them; to give more incentive for addicts to break the chain of abuse and stay clean.
