Feb 21, 2007 - 7:34:00 PM - The new comedy Norbit , which features Eddie Murphy as three different characters, is an enjoyable comedy for teenagers and young adults.
Norbit (Murphy) is an orphan raised by a Chinese man named Mr. Wong (also Murphy) at the Golden Wonton Restaraunt and Orphanage. He then befriends a young girl named Kate, whom he does everything with, including getting "married" by exchanging "vows" and Ring Pops. But when Kate gets adopted, Norbit is left at the mercy of a junk food guzzling black girl named Rasputia (Murphy, too) who he winds up growing up with and forced into marrying.
Problems arise when Kate (Thandie Nelson) returns engaged to a man that is actually a con man (Cuba Gooding Jr.), Rasputia's scheming brothers (Terry Crews, Clifton Powell, and Lester Speight) plan on buying the orphanage to convert it into a strip club. To complicate matters even more, Norbit realizes his love for Kate.
Norbit must then learn how to stand up for what he wants and how to face his fears without questioning the consequences.
Freshman Lexy Hitchcock said she enjoyed the film.
"The plot was ridiculous, but it did give out quite a few laughs," Hitchcock said.
Seth Cunningham agreed with Hitchcock.
"It was better than I expected," Cunningham said. "I thought is was going to be like Napoleon Dynamite, but it was actually really funny."
Norbit was released on February 9.
