On Friday night the Cleburne Yellow Jackets will be facing the four-time state champions Ennis Lions. During the last game the Jackets showed a lot of effort and hard work, but will it be enough to beat this undefeated team?
For the 2008-2009 season the Jackets are 3-2, and 0-2 in District 16-4A, yet the Lions are 5-0, and 2-0 in district. Head Coach Phil Young thinks this will be a match-up game, and the Jackets are going to do well Friday.
“Ennis throws the ball a lot, but we work well with teams that throw a lot,” said Young.
According to Young last week the Jackets made one too many mistakes, but the mistakes were all easily correctable. Nothing has changed in the way practice was setup to prepare for this game.
“The key to success is to believe in what you’re doing, and to always go full speed,” said Young.
Offensively, Ennis ranks first in district, averaging 475 yards per game with
Cleburne in third averaging 334.4 yards per game. On the flip side of things
Cleburne has the strongest defense in the district allowing just 179.4 yards per game, while Ennis ranks in fifth giving up 296.0 yards per game.
Coach Keith Ivy said that depending on who the Jackets are playing and the type of offense their opponent runs, the Jackets will make adjustments to their defense.
“We will do well, but it will be a challenge, we will show up tonight and play hard, no doubt about that,” Ivy said.
