Pep Rally Helps CHS Football Dominate

By Kelsey Jackson

Sep 10, 2008 - 12:57:29 PM - The Cleburne High School football team was triumphant in its first game of the 2008 season by defeating South Hills, Thursday night 48-7, but it was the school sprit that was brought on by a pep rally earlier that day that motivated these boys into there victory.

“It is football season again,” head coach Phil Young said, “And these boys have been preparing since it was in the low negatives, when it was really cold… for this day. All eyes will be on Cleburne tonight and we are going to shock all of Texas this year!”

This inspirational piece was spoken at a pep rally that was taken place Thursday, “Yes, we are going to win, but only if we play for the team, and not for ourselves,” John Finell, a junior center for CHS, spoke at the rally. The sprits were kept up by the Yellow Jacket Dancers, the Hive, and the cheerleaders.

“I like it when people get involved in school sprit,” says Carly Thresher, senior, and one of the Jacket Dancer’s mangers. She jokingly laughed, “Since it’s the first pep rally, the freshman will eventually catch on.”

Also as a “Hive” member, Thresher sported an unusual look to show her school sprit.

“The Hive is a student lead sprit group that brings positive support and motivation to the sports team at CHS. They also have special seating at sports events,” said the Hive’s advisor and cheerleading coach, Amber White.

Cheerleader Alissa Zachary, senior and captain of the squad, stood in the bathroom as she applied glitter to her eyelids, “We are ready and set as a strong team. We have strong hearts and lots of dedication,” she said. “I think the turn out of school sprit will be better than the past years.”

Zachary also noted that the squad has a lot of potential to make it happen this year. The squad did its job to rally the entire gym as the competition between the seniors, juniors, and sophomores foreshadowed the night’s victory.
