Senior Seth Boles signed a letter of intent to play football at Hardin Simmons University last week. The Christian based college does not offer athletic scholarships and Boles will pay for his college with academic scholarships.
Boles, a member of last year's third place accounting team, played guard on the football team here.
"He was the center for half of the season," athletic director Phil Young said. "When we moved him he didn't complain about it. That is the type person he is."
Boles said he was impressed with Hardin Simmons and is excited about playing for the Division III team. He added that the accounting program was a deciding factor in his choosing the Abilene school.
"They (Hardin Simmons) have a great accounting program," Boles said. "I'm glad to receive the academic scholarship because now I don't have to give up football."
His accouting teacher Jo Damron said Boles is deserving of the academic award and that she is happy he will continue playing football.
"Seth is a great student," Damron said. "He works hard, studies hard and gives everything 100 percent effort.
Hardin Simmons is a Baptist sponsored college located in Abilene. Enrollment there is around 2,000 students.
