Chuck Curtis, former coach of the Cleburne Yellow Jackets, and members of the 1982 team which advanced to the semi-final round of the 4A state football championships, are among the honorees who will be presiding over Cleburne High School 2007 Homecoming festivities.
Curtis and his 1982 Jackets will serve as Parade Marshals for Thursday evening’s Homecoming Parade, kicking off two days of activities, sponsored by Cleburne High School and the CHS Ex-Students Association.
This year’s Wall of Fame Award will be presented posthumously to Marshall Young, a member of the CHS Class of 1952. The Cleburne High School track complex is named for the late coach and businessman.
Coming Home Queen is Wileta Dickey Kretzschmar, who was nominated by her fellow graduates of the Class of 1963.
“All these individuals deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments, and their contributions to the community and Cleburne High School,” said Ex-Students Association President Mark Banton. “We are so honored to be able to show our appreciation to them, their families and their former classmates.”
Homecoming will officially begin 6 p.m. Thursday with the parade, which will begin near the high school and head south on Nolan River Road to Woodard, where it will turn east, then north to pass between Wheat Middle School and CHS, where it will conclude.
Immediately following the parade, the community pep rally will take place in the CHS gym. The CHS Student Council will serve as sponsor of the second annual “black out” pep rally, which will end with a light show.
On Friday, a community reception for the Ex-Students Association honorees will be held in conjunction with the second annual Cheerleader Reunion, hosted by the CHS spirit squad. The event is set for 4-5:30 p.m. at Caddo Street Grill.
“We’ll be happy to receive alumni membership dues at the reception and throughout Homecoming,” Banton said. “We’d like to encourage all CHS exes to join the Ex-Students Association. The $5 annual dues go directly into the Alumni Scholarship Fund.”
The nominees for Cleburne High School Homecoming Queen, along with the alumni award recipients, will be presented during ceremonies preceding Cleburne’s game with Crowley. The intrductions will begin at 7 p.m.
“We hope to have the bleachers filled as we welcome home and recognize these outstanding exes and special guests,” Banton said. “Due to UIL guidelines regarding the length of halftime, we felt it was better to move our recognition ceremony to pre-game. Everyone needs to come out early and then get their spot in the spirit line for the Jackets.”
Kickoff time for the Jackets game with Crowley is set for 7:30 p.m. During halftime, the six nominees for Cleburne High School Homecoming Queen will be escorted onto the field by their fathers, and the 2007 winner will be crowned.
