Girls basketball season looks promising

Speed and quickness are what girls' basketball coach Mitzi Marquart thinks will keep the Lady Jackets in contention with their 8-AAAA opponents.

The 22-year veteran coach said she is very enthusiatic about this year's team.

With six returning varsity players the Lady Jackets should match-up well against their district counterparts.

"I am excited about this year's team, and I believe the girls are ready to get started. We are looking forward to a successful season as we have high expectations," she said.

Ball control and defense are two of the weaknesses Marquart is worried about. The Lady Jackets compete against old rivals Stephenville and Aledo along with Crowley, who is new to the district.

Returning for the 2006-2007 season are: Katie Tull, Haleigh Marchel, Kyli Ginn, Sara White, Rebecca Anderson and Carly Thresher.

The Lady Jackets' first scrimmages are October 30.
