Earlier this week Denison softball coach Ashli Wigington told a reporter that the bad part of playing a one game playoff means there is no room for error. She now knows her words were very true.

Denison (20-10) comitted three key errors during the seven inning loss to the Lady Jackets (25-10).

The Yellow Jacket baseball team looks to improve on last season's disappointing 17-14 finish, a season in which the Jackets missed the playoffs for the first time in five years.

"I think we're going to rebound this year and make the playoffs," Coach Ross Taylor said.

Cleburne returns 11 seniors this season, compared to only two last year. The difference in the two seasons is while last year the Jackets were trying to gain experience, this year the team looks to improve on that experience.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Cowan returned to the mound Tuesday night with the same intensity she exhibited last year.

Cowan struck out nine and gave up only two hits in the Lady Jackets 3-0 win over the Texarkana Texas High School Lady Tigers.

Head Coach Sarah Dawson said she looks for the fall signing class of 2007 to add speed, power and pitching to the Lady Techsters softball team. Amberly Waits, from Cleburne High School (Cleburne, Texas) will add wheels to the team.

Janaye Richardson signed with Sam Houston State University yesterday to play softball.

The senior shortstop is in her fourth season as a Lady Jacket and has been named to the all-district team twice. She was also honored as a Wal-Mart all country softball player.

Sam Houston State University is located in Huntsville, Texas. The school belongs to the Southland Conference which includes: Texas-San Antonio, Texas State University, Northwest State, UT-Arlington, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana State, Nicholls State, Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana-Monroe.

Lady Jackets softball outfielder Amberly Waits signed a letter of intent on Wednesday with Louisiana Tech of the Western Athletic Conference.

Waits, a senior, is a returning for the fourth year to the Lady Jackets.

"I chose Tech because it's small and has a small town atmosphere," Waits said.

Louisiana Tech, located in Ruston, La., competes against Fresno State, Boise State, Nevada, Hawaii, Idaho, Utah State, New Mexico State and San Jose State.
