Mar 3, 2006 - 2:57:00 PM - The Yellow Jackets baseball team shut down the Burleson Elks Monday night 3-0.
Pitcher Robert Young struckout 12 and gave up one run in seven innings.
"Rob had a great night pitching-wise," Coach Ross Taylor said.
Scoreless until the sixth, the Jackets were able to put up two runs to take the lead. Cleburne's offense was led by Frankie Valdez and Jesus Chavez, who recorded two hits each.
"I would have liked to see some more offense, but Burleson had a good team," Taylor said. "This was a good win for us tonight."
Young kept the Elks from scoring in the sixth. In the Jacket half of the seventh, short stop Nathan Hood slugged a two-out home run for the final score.
"I got a great pitch to hit, and I unloaded," he said.
Young shut the door on a Burleson comeback when he struck out the side to end the game and give the Jackets the win.
The win moved the Jackets to a 3-0 season record. The teams plays in the Austin Pokluda Tournament this weekend.
