Lady Jackets face No. 1 seed in state semi-finals

The Lady Jackets softball team takes on Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Austin.

The Lady Bears are seeded No. 1 in the brackets with Dripping Springs seeded No. 2.

The Lady Bears (28-2) and the Lady Jackets (29-10) appear on paper to be pretty much equal in terms of batting.

On their way to the state tournament the Lady Bears, who is the only team in the finals to win their district championship outright, defeated Kilgore 12-0, 3-2 in area; defeated Brenham 2-1 and 2-0 for the region quarterfinal; the semi-final saw the Lady Bears eliminate Angleton 1-0 and 4-3; and in the Region final they defeated Klein Oak 2-0.

Dripping Springs faces Justin Northwest Friday afternoon for the other final berth.

Northwest defeated McKinney North in a best of three series Friday and Saturday.

The 4A championship game will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in Austin.
